Biography

Dr. Nelson is currently a professor of pharmacy and psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine. Prior to this appointment, she was a CNS medical science liaison with Bristol-Myers Squibb. She began her academic career at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Nelson is board certified as a psychiatric pharmacist.

Dr. Nelson received her B.S. and doctor of pharmacy degree from the UMKC School of Pharmacy. After graduating she completed a pharmacy practice and administration residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, a psychiatric pharmacy practice and administration residency at the Capital District Psychiatric Center, and a psychiatric pharmacotherapy fellowship at the Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, New York.

Dr. Nelson teaches psychopharmacology in both the pharmacy and medicine programs at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She provides clinical pharmacy services to an adult inpatient acute care unit at Truman Medical Center Behavioral Health in Kansas City, Missouri.
