Biography

Kylie Barnes received her doctor of pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri, in May 2010. Upon graduation, Dr. Barnes completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 residency in pharmacy practice at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and an ASHP accredited PGY2 residency program in ambulatory care and academia, with an emphasis in women’s health at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. After completion of her residency programs, Dr. Barnes joined the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy in Charleston, West Virginia, as an assistant professor, and an ambulatory care clinical specialist at an area clinic.

She joined the UMKC School of Pharmacy in August 2013 as a clinical assistant professor within the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration, and was promoted to clinical associate professor in 2019. Dr. Barnes is credentialed as a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist, and serves as an ambulatory care specialist at the high-risk obstetrics clinic located at Truman Medical Center – Hospital Hill caring for patients throughout their pregnancy. At TMC, she manages the treatment of a variety of chronic disease states during pregnancy, including diabetes (type 1, 2, and gestational), hypertension including preeclampsia, asthma, thyroid disorders, psych disorders, coagulation disorders, and pregnancy induced conditions including nausea/vomiting, heartburn, and constipation.

Dr. Barnes also provides both didactic and experiential education to pharmacy students. She is the director of applied skills and OSCE implementation, coordinating all nine TOSCE/OSCE events in the curriculum. She teaches various topics in Pharmacotherapy, and serves as a lab facilitator for the Pharmacotherapy I Self-Care course. Her scholarly interests include women’s health, pregnancy and lactation, implementation of OSCEs and teaching OSCEs within the curriculum, and scholarship of teaching.
