Biography

Kendall Guthrie received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the UMKC School of Pharmacy in May 2013. Upon graduation, she completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 community practice residency with Red Cross Pharmacy in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and following residency, joined the company as a clinical pharmacist. In 2015, she joined the UMKC School of Pharmacy as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration, and was promoted to clinical associate professor in 2021. Dr. Guthrie was appointed as the Director of Co-Curriculum in January 2022, where she works with students to develop, complete, and track professional development activities that complement and advance the learning occurring in the classroom setting. Additionally, she helps facilitate and coordinate interprofessional education activities on the Kansas City campus.

Dr. Guthrie is a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist and has had a variety of experiences in community pharmacy practice. She has a passion for expanding services within the community setting and currently serves on the Missouri Pharmacy Association Board of Directors, advocating for sustainable business models and advanced practice opportunities within community-based pharmacies. She serves as a research preceptor for the community-based PGY1 residents at Balls Food Stores and L&S Pharmacy, helping to design scholarly projects based on innovative services in the community setting.

Dr. Guthrie also provides didactic education to pharmacy students. She serves as the course coordinator for the self-care applied skills lab and co-coordinates the parent course. Along with her coordination efforts, Dr. Guthrie instructs in the following courses: Self-Care and Nonprescription Pharmacotherapy course and lab, Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery, Pharmacy Practice Leadership, Introduction to the Professional Degree Program, and Patient-Centered Care and Ethical Practice. She is a member of the Curriculum Committee and currently serves as the Academia-Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network Transformation (ACT) Champion for the UMKC School of Pharmacy. Her scholarly interests include clinical service development in the community setting, innovative teaching methodologies within applied skills lab courses, and development of student pharmacists’ self-awareness.
