Director of Experiential Learning / Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) Coordinator / Clinical Professor

Biography

Angela Brownfield, Pharm.D., is the Director of Experiential Learning and a clinical professor at the UMKC School of Pharmacy. She is located on the MU campus in Columbia, Missouri. Angela oversees the development and quality maintenance of all Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) programs at UMKC, with primary responsibility for all IPPEs. She provides instruction in the following areas: Patient-Centered Communication, Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery, and Self-Care and Nonprescription Medications (Pharmacotherapy I). In addition, she is the course coordinator for General Medicine I and the primary preceptor for an Academic & Administrative APPE.

Her current research interests include experiential learning, preceptor development, and curricular development. In 2017 and as the primary author, Angela was awarded the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Award of Excellence in Scholarship in Experiential Education with several of her colleagues. Angela served nationally as the Secretary of Knowledge Management for the Experiential Education Section of AACP from 2017-2019. She has also served as the chair of the following:  Council of Faculties - Curriculum Committee Chair Leadership Group (2022-23), Council of Faculties Preceptor Engagement & Development Task Force (2019-20), the Experiential Education Section Membership Committee (2018-20), and the Experiential Education Section Draft Standards 2016 Task Force (2014). In 2023-24, she was a co-chair for the AACP Task Force for LMS Implementation - Preceptor/Educator for the AACP Learn platform.
