
Biography
Dr. Andrew J. Smith is an accomplished educator, clinical pharmacist, and academic leader dedicated to advancing pharmacy education and promoting interprofessional collaboration. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) and completed a postgraduate residency in primary care at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. With extensive experience in both clinical practice and academia, Dr. Smith specializes in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and is passionate about student-centered teaching and innovative curriculum development.
At the UMKC School of Pharmacy, Dr. Smith teaches courses in pharmacotherapy, advanced pathophysiology, and clinical skills while actively contributing to assessment design and curriculum planning. He serves as chair of the Focused Academic Career Track (FACT) Public Health and Epidemiology Subcommittee and chair of the UM System Honors Committee. Nationally, Dr. Smith is president of the Rho Chi Society, where he leads strategic initiatives and mentorship programs. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Cardiology Specialty Council, focusing on exam development and certification standards.
Dr. Smith’s scholarship focuses on systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and educational research. He has presented at regional and national conferences and remains committed to mentoring students and residents, fostering collaboration, and supporting the next generation of pharmacy professionals.
