The UMKC School of Pharmacy has received a $15,000 National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation Scholarship award for its efforts in mentorship and promoting diversity programs and initiatives.
The award will support the School of Pharmacy’s mentorship program that pairs pharmacy students with pre-pharmacy students. Through this effort, mentors help under-represented minority students apply to pharmacy school, study for courses and prepare for the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT).
UMKC is one of only seven pharmacy schools to receive this year’s award for their endeavors with diversity programs.
The awards were presented in a virtual awards ceremony recognizing an ongoing commitment to advancing patient care through pharmacy education. The scholarship program funds prospective projects at accredited colleges and school of pharmacy that can significantly improve patient care.
“Thanks to our benefactors’ outstanding commitment, schools and colleges of pharmacy nationwide have the opportunity to improve health outcomes and address existing care gaps in their own communities,” Kathleen Jaeger, NACDS Foundation president, said. “We are so appreciative of our sponsors’ generosity and tremendous support of the NACDS Foundation Scholarship Program as well as the students, faculty and upcoming public health champions it proudly promotes.”
The NACDS Foundation Scholarship Program has provided nearly $4.5 million in scholarships for pharmacy education since it began in 1997.
