About

Dr. Mark T. Sawkin earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency in public health at the Kansas City CARE Clinic through the UMKC School of Pharmacy. He is currently a clinical professor in the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration.

Credentialed as an HIV pharmacist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine, Dr. Sawkin serves as an ambulatory care pharmacist and treatment adherence specialist at the Kansas City CARE Clinic. He provides medication therapy management services for the treatment of a variety of chronic disease states including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, hypothyroidism and HIV.

Dr. Sawkin provides both didactic and experiential education for pharmacy students, and in the classroom he teaches HIV and opportunistic infection pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy. He serves as faculty advisor for the UMKC Public Health Organization and as residency program director for the UMKC pharmacy practice residency in public health. His scholarly interests include HIV, public health, treatment adherence, interprofessional education and the scholarship of teaching.
