UMKC Pharmacy takes honors at national APhA convention

The UMKC School of Pharmacy landed a number of top awards and came close to pulling off back-to-back titles for the nation’s top American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists chapter at the APhA national convention. The annual meeting was held March 22-25 in Seattle.

The UMKC chapter of the APhA-ASP was selected as a first runner-up for National Chapter Achievement Award winners for the 2017-18 reporting period. The chapter won last year’s national award for outstanding activities and superior chapter programs.

UMKC took 43 students to the national convention that included annual meetings for Rho Chi (international pharmaceutical science honor society) and Phi Lambda Sigma (college honor society for pharmacy students). They returned with four chapter awards and a number of individual honors.

UMKC pharmacy students honored at regional meeting

The UMKC School of Pharmacy chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists received the 2018 Operation Heart Patient Care Award at the annual mid-year regional meeting Oct. 12-14 in St. Louis.

The award was one of many highlights for School of Pharmacy students at this year’s meeting that included a record number of 72 students from the UMKC program.

The Sweet 16 is set for men’s college basketball, but the championship for student pharmacists already has been determined. This time, a Cinderella team did not knock out a favorite: UMKC.

The American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists held its awards ceremony March 18 at the annual APhA meeting in Nashville. The UMKC chapter of APhA-ASP was recognized with the 2016-2017 Chapter of the Year Award.

APhA-ASP announces election of Pharm.D. student Sarah Riley to the position of Region 6 Member-at-Large at the Midyear Regional Meeting

In her role, Sarah will be responsible for responding to the needs of the general membership within her region that spans six states. She will work to ensure adequate communication between chapters in regards to membership and patient care activities. Sarah will also attend the APhA-ASP Regional Officer Meeting held this coming January in Washington, DC and has responsibilities at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition. Through these activities, she will have the opportunity to collaborate and network with other student and practicing pharmacists.
