APPE rotations
consist of students stepping out of the classroom and into real world experience
at actual pharmacy sites being trained first hand by licensed pharmacists.
Each rotation covers a different area of pharmacy which not only allows
students the experience they need, but also allows students to see the wide variety
of careers that are offered to pharmacists.
Pre-requisites
110 students will be accepted to the UMKC
campus and 28 students
are accepted at the MU
campus in Columbia into the satellite program.

Equivalency
Sheets. We have set up a web site that has equivalency sheets that
show which prerequisite courses will transfer to UMKC from most of the schools
in Missouri and a couple in surrounding areas.
In
addition to pre-requisite equivalencies, the Equivalency Sheets also contain
equivalency for basic science courses completed in the First Year of the Pharm.D.
program that may be considered for transfer but are not pre-requisite
requirements. The first year basic science courses listed on these pages, in
order to meet the transfer requirements, must have been completed within four
years of time of entry and completed with a C grade or higher.

Curriculum.
Here are the course
descriptions.
~~Important Note - Changing from a 1/5 to a 2/4 Program in Fall 2012~~
The UMKC School of
Pharmacy faculty have approved a major curricular change for the Pharm.D.
program. The Doctor of Pharmacy program will shift from a 1-5 program to a
2-4 program. This will require applicants after the 2010 admitting year to
complete two years of pre-requisite course work rather than one. Qualified
applicants admitted to the Pharm.D. program will then complete a 4 year Pharm.D.
curriculum after entry in order to meet graduation requirements.
What this means for applicants to the UMKC program is that the School of
Pharmacy will admit the last 1-5 Pharm.D. class in Fall 2010. After 2010
students admitted to the Pharm.D program will be required to successfully
complete a 4 year program, to include at least one summer, to receive the
degree. The School of Pharmacy will not admit Pharm.D. students on the
UMKC or MU Columbia satellite campuses in Fall 2011. The first 4 year
Pharm.D. class admitted to UMKC and to the MU satellite programs will be in Fall
2012. Specific information regarding changes in admission criteria,
pre-requisites and curriculum will be available later this year.
A proposal will be submitted to the Missouri legislature to fund a UMKC Doctor
of Pharmacy satellite program in partnership with Missouri State University in
Springfield, MO [see ‘UMKC Satellite Program’ information noted below]. If
this funding is approved during the Spring 2010 session, a satellite Pharm.D.
program will be initiated through UMKC School of Pharmacy with Missouri State
University beginning Fall 2011.
