Program for Top High School Seniors

The School of Pharmacy Faculty voted to keep the Provisional Program!

~Important note regarding changes to the Provisional Program

The UMKC School of Pharmacy has approved a major curricular change for the Pharm.D. program. The UMKC School of Pharmacy will begin the process of changing from a 1-5 program to a 2-4 program (i.e., 2 years of prerequisite course work, followed by a 4 year Pharm.D. curriculum).

Students admitted to the Provisional Pharmacy program beginning Fall 2010 will be required to complete two years of pre-requisite course work during the freshmen and sophomore years at UMKC in keeping with the new program structure.

~Provisional Program

Students accepted into the provisional admission program hold a reserve seat in the first professional year of the Pharm.D. program if they successfully complete freshmen and sophomore year eligibility requirements.

During their freshman and sophomore collegiate year, which will be on the UMKC campus, students will decide if they would like to continue their Pharm.D. studies at UMKC or on the Satellite program on the University of Missouri - Columbia campus.  Click on the link for more information.

Students meeting high school eligibility requirements should contact the Pharmacy Student Services office about the Provisional Program early in the student's senior year for more information. Two applications will be required, the online UMKC application and the Pharmacy Provisional Supplemental Application.

~Minimum Eligibility for Provisional Program

High school seniors whose high school cumulative (non-weighted) GPA  is 3.25 and above at the beginning of their Senior year and whose ACT composite score is a minimum 23 (1060 SAT score) are eligible to apply for the Freshman Provisional Admission Program. The GPA is worked up by the School of Pharmacy Student Services Office and could differ than what shows up on the high school transcript. Up to 30 provisional freshmen are accepted each year. Provisional students complete the pre-pharmacy coursework at the UMKC campus and take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test during the sophomore year.

~Pre-Pharmacy Requirements
Students who do not qualify for the Provisional Program are still very much welcomed to attend UMKC as a Pre-Pharmacy student.  Pre-Pharmacy students will take almost all the same prerequisite courses as well as the PCAT, and apply for the Pharm.D. program when they are ready, usually after one or two years.  They will also be advised by School of Pharmacy academic advisors .

Eligibility requirements for admission as a Pre-Pharmacy student fall back to UMKC Admission requirements for Freshman and can be found hereNote, clicking on the orange Pharmacy Program link towards the top will take you back here.  Scroll down to find the minimum requirements for UMKC.
