DIVISION OF PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES

REGULAR AND ADJUNCT DOCTORAL FACULTY MEMBERSHIP

The Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UMKC School of Pharmacy will consider two classifications of doctoral faculty membership in addition to the ex-officio doctoral faculty: (a) regular doctoral faculty, (b) adjunct doctoral faculty.
Criteria for Regular Doctoral Faculty
1. Duly nominated and approved regular (tenured or tenure-track) members of UMKC with the rank of assistant professor or higher.
2. Possess an earned degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline.
3. Present evidence of significant achievements in research and scholarly activities within the previous five years including four “full-length” papers published or accepted by refereed journals of national/international reputation. Two of the four “full-length” papers may be substituted by other activities listed in Table 1 of the Operating Procedures and Structure for Graduate Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and deemed acceptable by a vote of the regular faculty in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
4. Should be currently involved in working with graduate students. Such involvements would include at least two of the following:
a. develop and teach a graduate level course
b. significant participation in teaching other graduate level courses
c. serve as chairperson for Ph.D. student’s dissertation
d. serve as supervisory committee member for Interdisciplinary Ph.D. students
Criteria for Adjunct Doctoral Faculty
1. Possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S., D.Sc. or Pharm.D.) and demonstrate adequate training or expertise in pharmaceutical sciences or a closely related discipline.
2. The current teaching and research interests of the candidate shall be complementary to that of the faculty in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
3. Present evidence of significant achievements in research and scholarly activities within the previous five years including four “full-length” papers published or accepted by refereed journals of national/international reputation. Two of the four “full-length” papers may be substituted by other activities listed in Table 1 of the Operating Procedures and Structure for Graduate Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and deemed acceptable by a vote of the regular faculty in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
4 Demonstrate the ability to offer graduate level instruction by meeting one of the following requirements:
a. submit an acceptable graduate level course syllabus to the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences and indicate the level of participation in teaching by the candidate
b. experience in teaching a graduate level course
c. experience of serving as chairperson or committee member on supervisory committees for Interdisciplinary Ph.D. students
Criteria for Ex-officio Doctoral Faculty
1. The President, Chancellor, Provost, Vice Chancellors, Vice Provosts, Academic Deans, the Dean of Libraries, Chairpersons/Heads of the academic departments and divisions, and comparable academic officers are ex-officio members of the graduate faculty.
Under exceptional circumstances, a regular doctoral or an adjunct doctoral faculty applicant may be exempted from some of the above criteria with the approval of the majority of faculty in the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
