Aetna Staff Pharmacist

To achieve the goals and objectives of the organization by providing the professional expertise required in processing prescription orders.

Position Summary/Mission

Provide support and direction in the accurate and efficient processing of prescription orders by implementing the prescribed policy and procedures for workflow.

Dispense prescribed medications for patient care by performing the following duties.

Fundamental Components & Physical Requirements include but are not limited to

Performs professional duties and responsibilities associated with the processing of prescription orders (*)

· 

Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals (*)

· 

Aware of established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances and disposal of drugs (*)

· 

Assist with workflow management to comply with performance criteria turnaround times and customer service metrics (*)

· 

Meet quality performance metrics (*)

· 

Receives and reviews all prescriptions from doctors, nurses and doctor’s representatives for accuracy and clinical appropriateness (*)

· 

Provides consultation on the patient information and consultation line (*)

· 

Review accuracy of prescription data entry, order filling, and shipping (*)

· 

Identifies and responds to drug issues associated with prescriptions being filled (*)

· 

Perform utilization validation for prescriptions as necessary (*)

·

Reviews labeling of all prescriptions dispensed for accuracy (*)

 

- 

Able to enter data such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory (*)

 

- 

Provide drug and disease state training as needed (*)

 

- 

Instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy (*)

 

- 

Assist management with special projects as needed (*)

Background/Experience Desired

Previous experience as a retail, mail service or hospital pharmacist desired.

Education and Certification Requirements

· 

Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.

· 

Active license to practice pharmacy is required.

· 

Knowledge of pharmacy procedures, laws, positive and negative formulary, DAW codes and patient, department and company policies.

· 

Must meet all State Board of Pharmacy requirements for pharmacist licensing.
